How to Improve Attic Insulation Safety
UncategorizedImprove Attic Insulation Safety
When it comes to improving your home’s energy efficiency, insulation contractor attic is one of the most cost-effective places to start. Proper insulation helps maintain the temperature of your home during the summer and winter, reducing your utility bills and making your house more comfortable. In addition, insulated attics help prevent the formation of dangerous ice dams in the winter.
Before adding insulation, it’s important to thoroughly inspect the attic space. Look for moisture problems, like stains, mold, or flaking; these issues should be addressed before proceeding with any insulation projects. Also, make sure there are no holes or tears in the attic’s air barrier; this will reduce the effectiveness of your insulation.
Choosing the Best Attic Insulation
There are many different types of attic insulation available, each with its own benefits. For example, fiberglass batt insulation is a popular option because it’s inexpensive and offers R-values up to R-50. However, it’s not as effective as blown-in fiberglass or cellulose, which provide higher R-values and offer better coverage.
Other options include mineral wool, which is made from melted rock and recycled slag; it’s natural fire resistant and provides good R-values. Cellulose is another high-quality option, which provides superior R-values and has the added benefit of being moisture-resistant. Foil faced polyiso can also be used to achieve a high R-value, but it’s not as mold resistant as mineral wool.
Finally, radiant barriers are an excellent choice for hot climates; they reflect sunlight and heat away from the attic, reducing cooling costs. No matter which type of insulation you choose, it’s important to air seal the attic before beginning any insulation work; this will ensure that conditioned air doesn’t escape and outside air doesn’t enter, thereby maximizing energy efficiency.
