gajspers-nvbottle300dpiFeatured in the Jan 31/Feb 28 issue of Spectator, GAJA’s recently released 2011 vintage and 2010 Sperss left a lasting impression on Bruce Sanderson who rated all wines 91+ points.

97       Gaja Langhe Sperss 2010 (Collectable)

Fragrant, with incense and sandalwood notes framing the core of cherry, accented by hints of leather, tobacco and tea. Exhibits purity and density despite the formidable tannins. The finish is long and complex, revealing fruit and spice elements. Best from 2018 through 2035.–BS

94       Gaja Langhe Sori San Lorenzo 2011

Shows the breadth of the vintage, but also freshness and subtle cherry and plum flavors amid the menthol, mocha and spice notes. This turns more elegant and refined on the finish, showing fine equilibrium and length, with a sandalwood aftertaste. Best from 2017 through 2028.–BS

93       Gaja Langhe Costa Russi 2011

A succulent, fluid red, featuring black cherry, raspberry, leather, spice and anise aromas and flavors. The ripe fruit is layered over a taut weave of acidity and tannins, leaving a long, complex aftertaste of cooked fruit, mocha and spice. Best from 2017 through 2025.–BS

93       Gaja Langhe Sori Tildin 2011

Intensely flavored, this red seems almost weightless, with licorice, cola, black cherry and spice flavors. Deepens with mocha and tar details as it cruises to the long finish. Impressive, if marked by the oak right now. Best from 2018 through 2028.–BS

91       Gaja Barbaresco 2011

This red shows purity to the cherry, strawberry, licorice and floral flavors. Focused and taut, with a lingering aftertaste of licorice, spice and tobacco notes. The refined texture makes this distinctive. Best from 2017 through 2028.–BS
